Choosing a Conveyor
How do I choose between a belt and a roller conveyor?
Belt conveyors handle small, irregular or loose items and work on inclines. Roller conveyors suit flat-bottomed items like cartons, crates and pallets, and allow products to accumulate. If you are unsure, send us the product details.
What incline can a conveyor handle?
A plain belt usually handles about 15–18° depending on the material. Cleated or chevron belts allow steeper angles, and corrugated sidewall belts can go steeper still, even vertical in some designs.
What speed should my conveyor run at?
It depends on the throughput, the product's stability and the process. Many unit-handling lines run below 30 m/min; bulk conveyors run faster. A variable speed drive lets you fine-tune on site.
Can conveyors have curves?
Yes. Roller and modular belt conveyors can be built with curves. Flat belt conveyors usually change direction with transfers.
Which frame material is right for me?
Powder-coated mild steel for general and heavy duty, stainless steel for food, pharma and wet areas, and aluminium profile for light, reconfigurable lines.
Conveyor Belts
What does belt 'ply' mean?
Ply is the number of fabric layers inside a rubber belt. More plies give more strength and stiffness for longer, heavier conveyors.
What is an M-24 rubber belt?
M-24 is a common abrasion-resistant cover grade for rubber belts, widely used for aggregates, ore and other abrasive bulk materials.
When should I use PU instead of PVC?
PU is often preferred for food contact, oily products and where better cut and abrasion resistance is needed. PVC is economical for packing and general handling.
How do I measure a replacement belt?
Note the belt width, thickness, number of plies, type and the endless length (or the conveyor's centre distance and pulley diameters). A photo of the belt edge and any markings helps.
Why does my belt keep running off to one side?
Common causes are misaligned idlers or pulleys, off-centre loading, material build-up on pulleys or a poorly made joint. Check these first; we can help diagnose it.
